I do not decorate for Halloween; I let the spiders do it for me! I almost walked into this web on the way to the mailbox

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 13, 2017
This web, highlighted by the early morning sun, was on my front porch.

Willy Nilly Friday, October 27, 2017

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, and Floral Friday Fotos

1. Sparkling Water (Sky Watch Friday)
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, October 26, 2017
Although we are moving toward colder weather, we have had mild days with beautiful blue skies this week.

The bright sunshine really makes the water sparkle!

2. Autumn
McNairy County, Tennessee, USA, October 21, 2017
The leaves are turning just north of us in Tennessee! Hoping we will get good Autumn color here in Mississippi next week.

3. Good Food
Shiloh, Tennessee, USA, October 21, 2017
Last Friday was my 67th birthday, but my husband had a doctor's appointment that day, so we waited until Saturday to celebrate. Lemon-pepper Grilled Catfish filets, baked Sweet Potato, Strawberry Fields Salad with Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing, and Iced Tea at Hagy's Catfish Hotel Restaurant.

4. Farming
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 25, 2017
It is cotton picking time in Mississippi.

As he reached the end of the field and turned around, we get a better view of the cotton going into the picker. (Sorry the power pole was in the way).

When the picker is full, the cotton will be dumped into a trailer and taken to the cotton gin.

5. Confederate Rose (Floral Friday Fotos)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 26, 2017
Confederate Rose, Hibiscus mutabilis, (not a Rose; it is a Hibiscus) is a shrub that grows in the southern United States. It likes full sun and moist soil, and can be propagated through cuttings or by saving the seeds.

Indoor Plants, October 26, 2017

Thankful Thursday, Little Things Thursday, and Good Fences

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 25, 2017
In the Spring I put all my houseplants out on my porch to enjoy the Summer breezes. But now that our weather forecast is for a hard freeze this week-end, my husband and I spent several hours on Tuesday moving them back inside the house, and I am thankful that the job is done!

And for Good Fences:
Lee County, Mississippi, USA, April 12, 2017

Wildflower Wednesday, October 25, 2017

On the fourth Wednesday of each month we celebrate Wildflower Wednesday!

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 7, 2017
Isn't this a pretty wildflower? You may not like it so much when you know that it is...

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 22, 2017
Desmodium - Beggars Lice! It has been called Nature's Velcro for the seed's ability to stick
to anything that it comes in contact with.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, September 27, 2017

From the shape of its leaves, I think this is Desmodium canescens, Hoary Tick Trefoil. As a member of the Pea family, it is a valuable plant for maintaining wildlife habitat.

Happy Wildflower Wednesday!

Pelican, October 25, 2017

ABC Wednesday, Wild Bird Wednesday, and I'd Rather B Birdin'
P is for Pelican - one of the heaviest flying birds in the world.

Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, August 17, 2017
American White Pelicans, Pelecanus erythrorhynchos, are migratory birds, going as far north as southern Canada to breed in the Summer. In the Winter they can be seen in the United States from southern California across to Florida, and as far south as southern Mexico. They use their large bills to scoop fish from the water to eat.

Have a wonderful day!

Booneville Mississippi, USA, October 15, 2017
I learn a lot of interesting things by paying attention to the U-Haul murals.

Mission San Xavier del Bac near Tucson, Arizonia was built in the late 1700's and is one of the finest examples of Spanish Colonial architecture in the United States.  Visit the Mission's website and click on the church doors to see the magnificence inside. The Mission's website

Willy Nilly Friday 5, Sky Watch Friday, Floral Friday Fotos, and Saturday's Critters

1. Ballard Park (Sky Watch Friday)
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, October 13, 2017
Last Friday was a beautiful day to walk around Ballard Park Lake (it is not a large lake).

I do not know why the fountain in the middle of the lake was not turned on, but the turtles were taking advantage of it, sunning themselves on the fountain's base.

The ducks and geese were gathering for a meeting at the small amphitheater.

Here comes today's speaker with his entourage!

2. Art in the Park
Tupelo, Mississippi, USA, October 13, 2017
These two butterfly sculptures are near the children's playground at Ballard Park. The artist is Tanner Coleman, a native of Tupelo who now lives in Macon, Georgia

One butterfly is depicted with its wings open,

The other one with its wings closed. Of sturdy brick construction, children are encouraged to play on them.

3. The Reason Why (Saturday's Critters)
Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 16, 2017
This is The Reason Why I keep my camera in my lap when I am in the car! A White-tailed Deer ran from the side of the road to the edge of the woods, then paused for a few seconds to look back.

Just enough time for two quick photos before she ran deeper into the woods!

4. Autumn
Booneville, Mississippi, USA, October 19, 2017
The whole gang was out on courthouse square enjoying the cooler Autumn weather this week!

Gray Catbird, October 18, 2017

Wild Bird Wednesday, Wednesday Around The World, and I'd Rather B Birdin'

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA, October 9, 2017
Gray Catbirds, Dumetella carolinensis, are relatives of Mockingbirds and Thrashers. Look for them in dense shrubs and thickets of young trees in the east and central parts of the United States and in southern Canada. In the Winter months they migrate to the coastal regions of the United States, Central America, and the Caribbean islands. Their primary food sources are insects and wild berries, though they have been known to feast on cultivated fruit such as grapes and strawberries.

Have a wonderful day!

Coleus, October 16, 2017

Foliage Follow-up, Macro Monday 2, and Ruby Tuesday Too

The 16th of each month (the day after Gardeners' Bloom Day) is for spotlighting foliage plants.

Prentiss County, Mississippi, USA. October 13, 2017
Coleus can be grown in containers or in the ground, but they are not cold-hardy. Many leaf color combinations have been developed, giving gardeners almost any color they fancy.

They are very easy to grow, and thrive in shady areas.

To propagate Coleus cut off a few stems, put them in water, and they readily root, giving you new plants in a week or two.

Have a wonderful week!
